Hmm. I read in your other post you want to sew a skirt. Seriously a skirt is easy-smeasy. I could see you thread-and-needling it in a week's spare time.
If that's too overwhelming, I use a thread and needle to add embellishments to already existing clothing...like rosettes to belts or shirts.
you could try embroidery. all you need is a needle and thread for that :).
i love little embroidery samplers.
